Life as an RA

Wow! SOOO much has been happening lately that I don't even know where to begin! I got back to school last Tuesday. Since then I have gone to my first RA camp... which included a mud hike (hopefully pictures to follow), lots of meetings, fun skits, and good camp food. I have also been an actor for the party room in "Behind Closed Doors," a training simulation for the new RAs. AND I have had the opportunity to use a fire extinguisher! (In training of course). I have also played countless games of volleyball with my staff... I know... Heather? Volleyball?!? :) But it's provided for some great bonding. My wing is all decorated and pretty, now I just have some nitty gritties and business type stuff to take care of. And of course MORE meetings!

I have 8 girls on my wing right now... one color guard, 2 internationals from China, and 5 cross country runners. They are all very nice and open! I got a chance to talk a lot today with a couple of the runners, and last night I talked with one of the Chinese girls for quite awhile. She even gave me a pair of very pretty chopsticks! It is her 21st birthday tomorrow, so I got her a cute little notebook and some fun colored pens and made her a card.

The freshmen move in on Sunday and everybody else on Monday and Tuesday, so this weekend will be busy with finishing up everything and getting final preparations done. I'm really digging my room setup this semester so far, and even though it felt like I had so much when I was moving in, I either got rid of stuff, or was just much better at packing it all in and my room seems much more clutter-free than it did last year. Today I took an hour nap under my mongolian blanket... so cozy! So it's been a relaxing afternoon FINALLY, after so many packed days. It's nice to just catch up on regular life a little! So that's  basically my life in a nutshell lately!

RA training week.

Well, here I am, sitting in my room in Murray, writing as an OFFICIAL resident assistant! :) this past week has been training... a lot of boring speakers, but then also some exciting adrenaline pumping role playing exercises. I've had to break up a drinking party, warn people about quiet hours then witness a whole on fist fight, bust a marijuana party, deal with fighting roommates and angry parents, and watch other ras deal with rape, unconscious people, smelly roommates, and boyfriends with baseball bats. thankfully, all this is just for training and hasn't really happened. yet. :P

so needless to say, it's been an interesting week. most of my wing is decorated, i just have to hang up a few more things. most of my residents will probably be moving in later today or tomorrow... some on sunday. so you can be praying for me to get to know all the girls and have courage and wisdom when dealing with situations or just the daily awkward stuff. well, i'm off to go be productive! adios!

UPDATE! :D

QUICK UPDATE: just for you caring relatives who will be wondering. :)
my interview went well... nothing extremely good or extremely bad. i think i really aced some of the questions as well as the prepared presentation we had to give, but there were also some unexpected questions that tripped me up a little. soooo we shall see. it feels so good to have it over with and now its all up to God! so im pretty much not expecting anything, and if i get the position, yippee!! :) im going against some tough competition! so just be praying that i can rejoice with those who rejoice whoever gets the positions and that if that happens to me i can be humble. thanks bunches!

Interview!

Welp... tomorrow is the big day... I day, or more commonly known as Interview Day! Duh duh duhhhhh! I'm feeling fairly confident, however I know that any answers that are worthy of my getting hired are for sure gonna be from Jesus! I just can't wait for the interview to be over, because at that point I will have done all I can and it will be up to God as to what happens. So now I am going to go work on stuff with my roomie so I can rock this thing!

Tomorrow.
7 pm.
WOOT!
